The article is called, “Why ‘20% Time’ is Good for Schools”. It was written by A.J. Juliani. The article is about why people lose interest throughout the day when they constantly follow the same schedule. “Why ‘20% Time’ is Good for Schools” explains that it all starts with students. The article encourages administrators, parents, and teachers to understand that by giving students 20% of their time to do something they want to do (that is also productive), it will help them stay focused and continue to pay attention.
I think that Genius Hour/20 Time is a great idea. Many people have attention deficit disorders and other things that prevent them from staying on task and interested. One plus would be keeping students interested and on task by giving them a break from hard work. One bad thing would be that students who really are not interested in their education may use the time to distract other students who actually care about their education.
My goal for this trimester is to hopefully gain a better understanding of what I actually want to go into. I am not sure if I would rather be a web design teacher or just go into the web design industry. I plan to accomplish this goal by co-teaching the web design class at Lakeview High School. If I really like teaching, I may decide to go into the process of becoming a web design teacher when I attend college in the fall of 2016. If I decide I did not like teaching web design, I will know that I want to try going into the industry, and maybe will try through another trimester of career field experience.
