This week students began their graphic design lessons. They learned how to add layers and filters, the selection tools, and how to make buttons. The made name plates using different layers and filters. After learning the differences between the selection tools, they made collages from images they found on Google. Their most recent lesson was buttons. They created one button and then changed the text layer to make several buttons for their (so far) main project, the JavaJam website. They do reflections after each lesson saying what tools they used for their creations. My Genius Hour goal was to decide if I wanted to go into the web design industry or become a teacher. I honestly don't think I will have that answer this trimester. So far, I am leaning towards the industry because I feel as though I love web design because I can be creative and make the websites myself. I also don't know if the industry is what I am thinking it would be like either, so if I tried the industry, I could end up liking teaching better. I would like to take this class again in third trimester, and try to see the industry aspect of web design. Maybe then I will have completed my Genius Hour goal. |

Name plates? Can you show me the best couple of examples? You know how I am about seeing the work live. I think it is a great idea to try to get both teaching and industry under your belt. Remember to brainstorm a list of local places for me that are within driving distance.
